my new bamf* ride

Talk about an impromptu purchase: Last night J and I bought a car. Actually, we knew that we needed one and had spent the late afternooon at various car dealerships checking out our options. However, since we decided on a used car, we had to make the deal right then and there. So now we are the proud owners of this 2005 Nissan Pathfinder LE — leather seats, Bose sound system, optional 3rd row seating. The previous owner kept the car (or shall I say, truck) in pristine condition. It basically looks like a brand new car (and has a very clean engine, according to J.)

After last winter’s accident, I am very excited to have a snow-friendly 4WD at my disposal. Plus, in my playbook, the bigger car always wins.

dancing with the stars: senior citizens

My dad sent me an email linking to a USA Today article about the new “Dancing with the Stars” line-up and wrote:

A very weird collection of “stars.” I can’t believe Cloris Leachman is 82. If she dies on camera, I’ll be very upset.

Oh, dear.

house hunting: part 1

Happy Monday, my friends!

I hope you all had wonderful weekends. Did you get a lot done, or did you do a lot of relaxing? J and I had a very busy weekend. Since he just got back on Tuesday, there were people to see and things to do, including house hunting! I’m sure he would have preferred we wait until after our honeymoon to start looking at houses, but I convinced him we should start our search now. I’ve waited all summer for this!

The good news is that we’re in no rush to leave our apartment. We’re on a month-to-month lease right now. The bad news is that we might be staying in our apartment for a while. Of the 10+ houses we saw over two days, there were only two that we liked… and one of them was out of our budget.

In the area of town that we’d like to live, most homes in our price range were built in the mid-60s — and haven’t been updated since. We saw some truly ugly houses and quite a few smelled musty or like old people. One reeked so badly of cigarette smoke that we had to turn around and walk out before we even made it through the foyer. To be honest, it was a bit discouraging.

Here’s what we’re looking for in a house:

  1. 3+ bedrooms (master, guest and office)
  2. 3+ bathrooms (downstairs, upstairs and master)
  3. 2-car garage
  4. Updated kitchen with a pantry
  5. Fenced-in backyard
  6. Close to the interstate (so J doesn’t have a terribly long commute)

On our “would be nice” list:

  1. Master bathroom with two sinks
  2. Walk-in closet in the master bedroom
  3. Finished (or partially finished) basement
  4. Deck large enough for a grill and patio furniture

Our search continues Wednesday afternoon. Wish us luck!

Looking for something bright and happy to hang on your wall? Downloading this free poster (above) from Poppytalk is “Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.”

I am definitely making these customizable luggage tags to use on my honeymoon next month — so glad I convinced J that I needed a laminating machine earlier this year! (via How About Orange)

Too bad I didn’t read these tips on how to make cut flowers last longer when J sent me a bouquet of roses a couple of weeks ago. (via Shelteriffic)

Congratulations, Adriana, on In-Vita Paper Studio‘s one year anniversary! (via One Blue Chocolate)

I feel like I’d be cheating on Rick Steves if I used this City Walks deck to explore Rome with J… but it’s tempting. (via The Speckled Egg)

It makes perfect sense that I want this print (above), as J now calls me “the bird lady.” My half-birthday is coming up in September… (via Miss Jane)

I love this eco-friendly version of the traditional “Thank You” plastic bag. It’s really time I got myself a tote to take with me to the grocery store. (via CUT+PASTE Blog)
