beer and lightning don’t mix

But beer and pretzels do!

Sunday in St. Louis J and I toured the Anheuser-Busch brewery–and got caught in an unexpected torrential downpour complete with thunder and lightning as we walked from one building to another with our tour group. We had to wait out the rain in one of the buildings for a good 30 minutes or so.

Before the tour we snacked on a pretzel dog from Gus’ Pretzels even though we had just enjoyed Eggs Benedict for brunch at Benton Park Cafe. I just can’t resist a delicious pretzel dog. What a rare treat!

After the tour we received two complimentary beers to sample. My favorite of the four that J and I shared? Amber Bock, the dark one on the left.

This weekend, J and I traveled to St. Louis for a wedding. The ceremony, which was short and sweet, was held in a chapel on Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. The reception followed aboard the Becky Thatcher Riverboat on the Mississippi River. Sadly, the DJ did not have Lonely Island’s “I’m on a Boat,” the unofficial song of the night, among his collection of music.

pets can fly the friendly skies

Unfortunately, Pet Airways doesn’t fly through the Omaha airport, but if it did, I would definitely consider using it for Briscoe. He’s just a tad too tall now to fit comfortably under the seat in front of us, and I can’t fathom crating him up and sticking him in the luggage compartment. I know that people do travel with their pets that way all the time, but I would spend the entire flight worrying about my baby boy.

How do you travel with your pet?

red lipstick

Inspired by Liz’s post, I’ve been trying to rock the red lipstick this past week. I’m not 100% comfortable with the look yet; I’m typically a smokey eyes, pale lips kind of girl. But I love how red lips look in Liz’s and Michelle Williams’s photo below. What do you think about red lips–easy to pull off or hard to wear?

flag cake

How did  you spend your 4th of July? J and I got together with friends for a pot-luck BBQ. We brought appetizers (pizza rolls), ingredients for this festive beverage and dessert. Remember those strawberries I hulled Saturday afternoon? They were for this flag cake, lovingly created by J!
