Somewhere in Middle America

a new chapter in my life and in blogging

The other night I was on the phone with my grandma, and she asked me about blogging. A year or two ago I was contributing a number of blogs plus updating my own regularly, and since my grandmother doesn’t know how to connect to the Internet, she assumed I was still writing everyday. Sadly, I had to tell her the truth, that blogging had fallen to the wayside. I’m not sure why, but I made it less of a priority than my other daily activities. The unfortunate part is that I love to write (especially about myself and the people, places and things I love). It’s cathartic. It’s a way to capture a moment so that I can relive it at a later date. It’s a way to connect with friends old and new, near and far.

The other day I was inspired to pick up where I left off on Somewhere in Middle America. However, I will attempt to make my posts more focused. The sub-header of my blog is “Playing House in the Heartland,” and I intend to write more on that topic. Future posts might revolve around: cleaning, organizing and decorating my house; cooking and baking; training Briscoe to become a better behaved pooch; carving out a career; my thoughts and fears about turning 30; and, being a wife, a daughter and a sister. Of course, I’m sure I’ll want to talk about my favorite movies, music and books, as well as current events and pop culture. Basically, anything that crosses my mind on a normal day could find it’s way into the blog!

One thing that I have been mulling over quite a bit is the fact that in less than 2 months I’m going to be 30-years-old. I don’t think I’ve fully wrapped my head around that yet. I still remember how I felt turning 20, knowing I was entering into a decade full of big changes. Some of what I expected to happen in my twenties came true. Certain things did not. You can expect a couple of blog posts reflecting on what I did and did not accomplish this past decade–and what I hope will happen in the next.

I hope that you’ll join me as I brave the waters of the blogosphere… again. It’ll be good to have you along for the ride.
