what i’m bringing to italy (so far)

Last night I began trying on and laying out all of the clothes I’m planning to bring to Italy. This is what my packing list looks like, not including toiletries and accessories (note we will be arriving in Italy early in the morning on Tuesday 9/9 and leaving in the afternoon on Thursday 9/18):

accessories for italy

We made an impromptu stop at Dillard’s yesterday to see if they had any good Labor Day sale items. Specifically, I was hoping to find comfortable shoes and a hat to wear in Italy (I have been totally fixated on the idea of straw fedora), and I did–at ridiculously low prices.  I bought a pair of Born Gobino sandals that was 75% off the original price (I paid $12) and a paper straw fedora on sale for 50% off (I paid $17).

Then I came across The Sak Silverlake Canvas Crossbody, which seemed like a practical bag for our trip since I know I need to be cognizant of pickpocketers in Italy, particularly in Rome. It was also 50% off the original price, so I bought it for just $29.50.  Green was a bold choice for me; I usually stick with neutrals, and they had a tan bag, but the green just seemed so dang cheerful that I couldn’t pass it up.

Any thoughts on the best type of bag to carry when traveling?

i know it’s a fanny pack, but…

As many of you know, while J is away I’m in charge of planning our belated honeymoon to Italy in September. One of my favorite things to do is imagine what outfits I’ll wear when we visit Venice, Florence and Rome. I don’t want to look like a tourist; I want to look like a young, fashionable newlywed! I picture myself wearing cute sundresses, slim capris, and comfortable walking shoes that are NOT made by Nike.
