With our wedding presents now taking over every nook and cranny of our apartment, I’m on a mission to get rid of all the remaining clutter. First on my agenda: old magazines.
Let me make a confession: I love magazines. There are some that I just can’t toss in the trash when the next issue arrives in my mailbox. I save those magazines to use as inspiration down the line…though I have the tendency to forget to look at them later on.
When I moved into our apartment last May, I brought with me every 2006 issue of Lucky and Domino magazines, plus all of the 2007 issues I had received up to that point. I’ve since accumulated more issues of both publications, plus copies of Allure, Real Simple and Martha Stewart Weddings.
Yesterday I decided to go through the 2006 Domino mags and rip out only the images that I love. My goal is to stick them in a binder or file folder and REMEMBER to refer to those pages when it comes time to decorate a house. (Oh man, do I want a house!) The remaining magazine — trashed. Soon I will tackle the 2007 stack.
But I don’t really see the need to hang on to old issues of Lucky anymore. Fashion is so transient; why hang on to the out-dated. As Heidi says, “One day you’re in and the next you’re out.” Adios, Lucky!
The problem is that I feel guilty dumping two year’s worth of Lucky magazines in the recycling bin. Could I donate them someplace? Any ideas?
Also, if you tear out magazine pages like I do, how do you store them?
PS – I dumped all of my copies of Brides and Modern Bride, but I just don’t think I can throw away Martha Stewart Weddings. They are too beautiful.
