The snow on the trees this morning is a clear reminder that it’s still winter in Omaha, but at least it’s no longer pitch black outside at 4:30 pm. We’re slowly making our way towards daylight savings.

Here’s a collection of some of the photos I took on the 4th of July using my new Canon Rebel XTi. It was my first time playing with my new(ish) toy, and I liked it a lot — even though I had no idea what I was doing!

One of my college roommates is moving from New York to Colorado and driving herself cross-country. Sunday evening she arrived in Omaha to stay with us for a couple of days, and we’ve been keeping busy since!

On Sunday:

– Ate dinner at The Dell in Dundee

– Played Rock Band at our friend Eric’s house (it was Krissy’s first time and she impressed everyone with her drum and bass skills)

On Monday (I took the day off from work):

– Ate brunch at The Garden Cafe

– Visited the Holy Family Shrine (see above photo collage)

– Walked around The Old Market and enjoyed the sun and the warm weather

– Watched hours of high definition HGTV while editing photos that we took during the day

– Played Wii (Krissy had never played Wii bowling yet still managed to kick my ass)

– Baked a chocolate cake

Unfortunately, I had to go back to work today, so Krissy is exploring the rest of Omaha on her own. One of her planned stops: Wal-Mart!

My fender bender on Sunday really spooked me, so I’m working from home because it’s really snowing outside today.

They estimate up to 5 inches by 3 pm.

Here are some photos of the mundane taken over the past couple of weeks. This is my life in O.

Homemade muffins for breakfast (ok, I used a mixed).

We’ve only gotten two flowers from the gardenia my parents gave us as a housewarming present, which we named Bernice. Sadly, I think she’s going to die soon. I’m a terrible plant-mother.

I spotted a giant bird crossing the street as we were driving in the NW section of Omaha. We trailed it until J could jump out of the car and take a picture. Um, hello wild turkey.

The day my iPod died and then came back to life. They look so sad when they’re sick.

Shakespeare on the Green. Not quite Shakespeare in the Park, but we enjoyed the first half. We left at intermission because of all of the bugs.

J utilized half a package of brownie mix and 4 blackened bananas to create a yummy dessert of 1/2 brownies, 1/2 homemade banana bread.

We exchanged our Vera Wang mattress today for the SSPT version: Super Soft Pillow Top. Time to test it out…
