This morning I’m drinking tea instead of my usual cup of coffee. Why, you ask? It’s simple: I have no creamer. But the reason why I don’t have any creamer is a bit more complicated. It all started yesterday afternoon when I returned home after being out of the house for a couple of hours. I opened the refrigerator to pour myself a glass of iced tea only to learn that the beverage was tepid. In fact, everything in the fridge was a bit warm. I checked the digital temperature read-out; instead of 37 degrees, the temperature was at 59 degrees–and rising. The freezer was also warming up, from 0 degrees to 9. Thankfully our year-old fridge has a 5-year warranty, but J and I might have lost hundreds of dollars worth of groceries. We quickly emptied the contents of our freezer into coolers and left them outside in the snow. Most of the food inside our fridge, however, was ruined. Warm eggs, anyone?
Of course, now that we have a maintenance appointment scheduled for sometime today, the temperature inside the refrigerator is starting to cool down. Still going to have it checked out because neither my husband nor I have any idea what caused the warm-up. (According to him, the compressor was still working, but I’ll have to take his word on that since I don’t know what or where the compressor is.)
Oh, the joys of being a homeowner.
