archiving magazine articles

Once upon a time I subscribed to the now-defunct design magazine, Domino. I religiously tore out inspirational pages and glued them into scrapbooks or slid them into clear plastic binder sleeves; I never saved the entire issue. Then I got lazy. I stopped cataloging my favorites and just started stacking past issues on my bookshelves. In retrospect, I’m glad I decided to keep a year’s worth of Domino. It’s fun to flip through them to see what strikes my fancy now.
It’s not practical, however, to keep every single magazine I’ve received, and I receive quite a few of them: Real Simple, Entertainment Weekly, Vogue, Glamour, Lucky and Body + Soul. I also buy several on occasion, including Women’s Health and Psychology Today. When an article piques my interest, I end up setting aside the magazine to return to at a later time… which rarely happens. I’m wondering if I should start saving specific articles again, and, if so, how. I could paste them inside a notebook, file them in folders, store them in binders or scan them into the computer, as this post from Unclutterer recommends.
Do you save magazine articles for future reference? If so, what strategies do you employ to keep everything neat and organized?

I too am a magazine junkie! I did save most of my Domino issues, thankfully. Usually I cut or tear out anything I want to save and keep it in an “inspiration binder” in clear plastic sleeves. Occasionally I go on a cleaning binge and just toss a bunch in the recycling bin.
I too am a mag junkie!
We’re planning a big home reno in the next few years, so I have every home mag ever published. I’ve started to rip out relevant pages and put them in labeled pocket folders… “Kitchens” “Baths” “Floors” etc. All the pocket folders sit in 2 magazine holders on my desk. Seems to be working for now!
I do the same thing you outlined in the first paragraph with the binders and plastic sleeves! I have different tabs to separate the articles or ideas. Such as decorating, tips, outfits/fashion ideas, make-up, gift ideas, crafts, etc. So articles from different magazines end up in the different sections. We are going to move too much for me to want to cart all the magazines with me. Now, I just need a place to keep the binders…but I guess that is a separate issue.
As a magazine designer I have a really hard time throwing away a magazine. I have them stacked on bookshelves. I recently found 15-20 old dusty magazines under my bed. Most of those I threw away. I rarely go back to them and I really should just pull out articles that are inspiring.
