in the garden of daffodils and tulips
First there was a daffodil. Now we have a tulip. I suppose I should start calling what we’ve got going in front of the house a garden, as the definition of a garden is “a plot of ground, usually near a house, where flowers, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, or herbs are cultivated.” I always considered plant life in front of a house to be “landscaping.” In my mind, “gardens” looked more like these:

Do you have a garden in your yard or do you consider the plants and flowers in front of your house to simply be landscaping? Please leave your comments below!

I don’t have either, sadly (well there’s a patch of grass and some courtyards they call communal gardens). But I love love love your tulip photos!
I agree with the landscaping classification. When I think garden, I tend to think vegetables all in a row that you have to tend to regularly. Unfortunately my yard also has neither so I have lots of work ahead…but I say that every weekend and it still hasn’t happened!
Great Flickr finds!!! I aspire to have a yard full of flowers, but still working on it! When I use the term garden I think of flowers and not vegetables personally…but that’s that just me!
In NYC, you are lucky to even have a grassy patch on the street where you live! Although in looking for a new place to live, many postings boast “patio” which seems to be as close to a suburban garden you’ll be able to own. But I suppose there’s always Central Park!
