Bad blogger! I haven’t had a chance to write my weekly link up post because I’ve been prepping for an out-of-town guest. My oldest friend is coming to Omaha for the very first time this morning.
When I say “oldest,” I don’t mean in age. I’ve known Ali even longer than I’ve known my own sister. Our moms met in Lamaze class; Ali was born a month before I was. We lived in the same townhouse development until our parents bought their first houses. Although they moved to the same town, Ali and I went to different elementary and middle schools. Our friendship survived on play dates until we met back up in high school. Then after college we were roomies in DC for a year.
She requested I show her my favorite places in Omaha this weekend, which got me thinking… What are my faves? While I come up with my list, why don’t you share yours? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

I lived way out in Millard during my time in Omaha, which led to rarely going anywhere interesting, but you can’t go wrong with the zoo, the Old Market (ice cream at Ted & Wally’s!), and Joslyn is she is into art. Also I’ve been meaning to go on the Boys Town tour, because I’m a history nerd. I’m not sure how it is for those who didn’t grow up in Nebraska, but having a Runza is always on my list for out-of-staters.
Well, of course Trocadero! But it’s not quintessentially Nebraskan I suppose…
For my to-do list I would have to include: the zoo, La Buvette, Drover for whiskey filets and the metal plate salad bar!, Fontenelle Forest (?), Pink Poodle in Crescent, Iowa for prime rib, if you have time, Walnut, IA for antiquing (1 hour day trip), a reuben somewhere (Goldberg’s or the Dell?) since it was created here in Omaha, thrifting everywhere from Salvation Army and Goodwill to south O….
Take Ali to Amsterdam + eCreamery + that heavenly book place + the fabulous JCC pool!
